The first thing you’ll notice about this sling is its huge size. Although this is the smallest sling in the range, it is still a whopping 115cm long, 30cm wide, and 65cm deep. It is the width measurement which really showcases the improvement between the original sling and this re-mastered version. This modification came about as a result of angler feedback, as the brand had received a handful of reports that lively carp were damaging their strong pectoral fins in the sling. To prevent this accidental harm, the brand significantly widened the sling. This gives even larger carp enough room to wiggle in the sling, without putting undue stress on their fins.
The mesh of the sling itself has been designed to ensure that it allows optimum water flow, the benefits of which are two-fold. Firstly, this ensures that, when the carp is suspended in the water, any current in the water can flow through the mesh. This prevents the fish from being buffeted against the mesh of the sling, preventing the risk of scale damage. Secondly, when you lift your fish out of the water for weighing it ensures that any water can drain away quickly. This ensures that you always get an accurate reading from your scales, so you can be confident that the huge number showing is bang on the money. The sling itself has been specifically shaped to ensure that your carp is perfectly supported throughout its time on your scales, too, ensuring that no undue pressure is placed on any element of the carp’s body.
This sling is ultra-buoyant, thanks to the introduction of four high-quality floats. These have been designed to support the weight of your sling in the water, ensuring that you can safely suspend your quarry whilst you set up any weighing or photography equipment. Not only does this give you the chance to make any last minute adjustments on the bank or to re-cast your carp rod to start attracting another big hit but it also gives your carp a chance to recover. After all, you’ll know how exhausted you can feel after a big fish fight so you can only imagine how the carp itself must be feeling. Giving it a chance to recover and de-stress in the water before you remove it for weighing and photographing, as well as prior to release, ensures that your fish can swim away ready to fight another day.
As final features, the Trakker Sanctuary Retention Sling v2 has been fitted with re-enforced dual weighing straps (with fixed weighing loops), double reinforced carry handles (for safe lifting) and a 5m retaining cord. These have all been designed to ensure the safety of the fish whether it is suspended in the air or in the water.
